The History
Soraya Yavari is a Canadian-trained child psychotherapist and play therapist, who when facing the challenge of finding a suitable preschool for her daughter in Brussels, decided to establish a school herself.
While Brussels counts many international, multilingual schools, these are mostly found in large, institutionalized settings. Soraya was looking for a school that emphasized individualised education in small groups. Roots and Wings preschool opened its doors in 2009. Given the great reception the school has received and strong interest among the parents, Soraya and her academic team decided to form a primary and a secondary section.
Roots and Wings School stays true to its founding ideals. Individual students’ learning styles are identified, and teaching is adapted to take account of children’s different strengths and interests. A project, theme-based approach provides a meaningful context in which to learn.
The Roots and Wings team is extremely passionate about what it does. Soraya’s experience with children extends over 20 years, working in schools, in private practice as a therapist, and in hospitals. Her geographical work experience spans Canada, the UK and Spain, and together with a multinational team, the school provides a very welcoming atmosphere for Brussels’ international community.
